Food transportation to Mullaitivu by sea

At present essential food items are delivered to the people who are trapped in the No-Fire zone area only by sea. This is an extremely difficult task because there is no port in Mullaitivu area to unload the goods.

Therefor the ship carrying food has to anchor in mid sea and goods are unloaded into several fishing boats and then taken to the shore for distribution to the people. No other country in the world which are engaged in combating terrorism have ever taken this kind of actions to facilitate humanitarian assistance.

Unfortunately the majority of the food so delivered is frittered away by the LTTE. The government has delivered nearly 1300 MT of food during first week of April to this area for the Sinhala Hindu new year season.
