End of the War

Every citizen of the country who had experienced the traumas of LTTE terrorism is sure to breathe a sigh of relief, seeing the unfolding scenario of the LTTE's crushing defeat in their last stronghold in Puthukudirippu

"Even the ranks of Tuscany could scarce forbear cheer" the glorious military success of the Sri Lankan forces against the most ruthless terrorism outfit in the world.

It is singularly significant to note that no less than four leaders of this country directed military operations against Prabhakaran but could not fight it to a finish, until it was left to President Mahinda Rajapaksha to pick up the Gauntlet; to deal the deadly coup de grace on Prabakaran and his savage gang.

Prabhakaran, masquerading as a liberator, in his abortive attempt to achieve an Utopian Eelam state, has shed more blood than Nero, and the gory details of his atrocities from the Aranthalawa Bhikkhu massacre, up to the Akuressa Carnage are so loathsome, it makes even imagination shrink from contemplation.

Prabhakaran's life bears a strong resemblance to the world's most detestable characters like Adolph Hitler, Musalini, Nero and Pol Pot.

Anthropologists have described these figures as fanatics. Their megalomaniac instincts make them yearn for power at the cost of human blood.

John Keat, the famous English poet's perspective focus on fanatics gives us a fascinating insight into the mind of a fanatic, in this graphically illustrative language.

"Fanatics have their dreams; wherewith they weave, a paradise for a sect" (the fall of Hyperion)

How neatly does this description dove tails with the Utopian views of Prabakaran.

In the recorded history of Sri Lanka, the war against Prabakaran has been the most protracted and a sanguinary one, and during the last phase of the war, it has been fought with remarkable courage, determination, and exact military precision under the able leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksha.

When future historians delineate these facts and the humanitarian precursor of this war in the annals of history, they will undoubtedly evoke sentiment of profound admirations, in the minds of posterity for all those who valiantly fought to bequeath a united Sri Lanka for them.

Heros

The Sri Lankan army has done the civilised world proud by undertaking probably the biggest ever rescue operation in the world to save tens of thousands of civilians taken hostage by a terrorist outfit banned in many countries.

Yesterday, the troops smashed the LTTE defences in the 'civilian safe zone' enabling over 35,000 men, women and children to move to safety in the government-held areas. Prabhakaran's death squads, true to form, used suicide bombers and fired heavy weapons killing as they did dozens of civilians in a desperate bid to prevent them from fleeing. But, civilians keep pouring out of the LTTE-held 'safe zone'. With the army breaching the LTTE's FDL at several points and facilitating a mass exodus, Prabhakaran and his fellow criminals will soon be left without any more women's clotheslines and babies' cots to hide behind. They will now have to come out and face the army or bite their cyanide phials.

Food transportation to Mullaitivu by sea

At present essential food items are delivered to the people who are trapped in the No-Fire zone area only by sea. This is an extremely difficult task because there is no port in Mullaitivu area to unload the goods.

Therefor the ship carrying food has to anchor in mid sea and goods are unloaded into several fishing boats and then taken to the shore for distribution to the people.
